LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
from HaLapid, Spring, 2010
Dear SCJS Members:
After our February 7 meeting in Austin, Texas, the SCJS Board is about one
clause away from announcing the hotel for our San Antonio Conference August
1 – 3, 2010. We will announce the conference hotel the second that detail
is worked out. I adore San Antonio, one of the cities where my mother grew up,
and I look forward to seeing you there.
Members of our outreach committee, including Chana Cohen and Roger Martinez,
have been working on a brochure to introduce a broader range of people to our
group and its endeavors. Roger helped us make our debut on Facebook in 2009,
and we continue to explore new avenues of communications through our Website and
other outlets. HaLapid, now in a perfect bound format (stands up like a book),
continues to attract subscribers in the U.S. and abroad. Ron Duncan Hart
completes two years as editor with this issue, and we thank him for his very
professional work. We hope to announce a new editor by the end of the year. In
the interim, our Vice President for Communications, Art Benveniste, and board
member Dolly Sloan will fill the gap.
Finally the programming committee has issued a call for papers and presentations,
and the Sosin Arts Committee is reviewing wonderful music and visual artists for
your delight. The San Antonio area offers an abundance of cultural,
scholarly, and artistic resources that will bloom at our 20th annual conference.
